Barbara Braun Associates, Inc. is a full service literary agency in New York City. Barbara Braun, president, is joined by associate John F. Baker, and an assistant.

She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, has worked as an editor and journalist, as well as a university teacher, and is the author of three books and numerous articles.

We represent both literary and commercial fiction and serious nonfiction, including psychology, biography, history, women's issues, social and political issues, cultural criticism, as well as art, architecture, film, photography, fashion and design.

Our fiction is strong on stories for women, art-related fiction, historical and multicultural stories, and to a lesser extent mysteries and thrillers. We are interested in narrative non-fiction and current affairs books by journalists.

We do not represent poetry, science fiction, fantasy, horror or screenplays.

Our clients' books are represented throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America by various sub-agents.

We are also active in selling motion picture rights to the books we represent, and work with various Hollywood agencies.

Member of Association of Authors' Representatives, Inc., the Authors Guild, and PEN Center USA.

Commission fees: 15% domestic, 20% foreign.

No reading fees.

Your query should include: a brief summary of your book, word count, genre, any relevant publishing experience, and the first 5 pages of your manuscript pasted into the body of the email. (NO attachments – we will not open these.)

Due to the volume of submissions, we are unable to respond to all queries. If it appears we might make a good match, we will ask you for more material.
